The preliminary task was to create a magazine that was appropriate as a school magazine, Using our own photos and ideas that had to be original. I wanted to produce a popular, appropriate and realistic looking magazine cover.
I chose the title 'Academy' because it represents school/college, and suits the magazine, and because I
incorporated the school colour into it, I think it represents Chew Valley well.
The font I chose is youthful without being childish or innappropriate, and is instantly noticable, I also tried to keep the font colours consistant, to allow the magazine cover to flow together.
I used different sized fonts to catch peoples eye, and to make words stand out.
The main photo I used was originally taken in sepia, I experimented with a colour version but the magazine imediatly looked too busy and caotic. I also toyed with having a black and white photo, but that washed out the page and looked almost vintage. That was not the visual look I wanted to achieve so I settled with the original sepia photo.
Although my target audience are the students of Chew Valley School, I wanted to magazine to be accessable to people outside of school, so I tried to create a magazine that was appropiate to achieve this.
My magazine would be distributed by the school to offer the Students and possibly the teaching staff. It would be released as a monthly magazine, highlighting news, topics and events at the school. It used conventional items and layout that could be convincing in a published magazine.
